Fukuoka, Japan Adventure 2016 (Part II)

Fukuoka is a gourmet paradise. It's right on Genkai Sea, and the seafood is fresh and abundant. Fukuoka-style ramen is very delicious which you can find at the city's famous yatai (outdoor stalls) as well as modern restaurants. There are also a lot of shrines that you can visit. Here is the second part of our Fukuoka Japan Adventure!

Sumiyoshi-jinja Shrine (住吉神社)
Sumiyoshi-jinja is a Japanese Shinto shrine at Hakata in Fukuoka Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. Is is one of oldest shrines in Kyushu. The present shrine was restored in 1623 in the ancient architectural style of "Sumiyoshi-zukuri". It is believed to be one of the older shrines in Kyushu and is dedicated to the guardian god of sailors. It is so peaceful visiting this shrine and  is sometimes hard to believe  that it is located within a busy city. It is just a 15-minute walk from the JR Hakata Station.

The shrine has a huge sumo statue. It is believed that laying your hands on the giant sumo wrestler statue brings good health, strength, energy and luck.

Canal City Hakata
Canal City Hakata is a large shopping and entertainment complex in Fukuoka, Japan. Called the "city within the city," it boasts numerous attractions including shops, cafes, restaurants, theater, game center, cinemas and a canal which runs through the complex. We did our Uniqlo shopping here. It is so cheap!

Yobashi-Hakata (ヨドバシ博多)
We visited Yodobashi-Hakata! This store carries all electronics that you could ever imagine. They have everything from big appliances to small house hold items. They are well organized! I could to stay in this department store for a day. We bought cheap Casio watches and phone accessories in this store.

Don Quijote (ドン・キホーテ)
Don Quijote or simply "Donki" is one of my favorite shopping places because it's all-in-one shop. It is a discount chain store that has over 160 locations throughout Japan. It carries a wide range of products, from basic groceries to electronics to clothing.  Most of the items are inexpensive. This place should be on the itinerary of every Japan tourist. I did all my matcha green tea shopping here! You can also avail of the tax free (8% less) promo if you will shop more than 5000 yen. I highly recommend this place for the pasalubong (gift) shopping for your family and friends back home.

Trandor Bakery in JR Hakata Station Fukuoka (トランドール博多駅店)
Trandor is one of the best bakery shops in Japan. I think it's better than Singapore's BreadTalk. I really love it because they have freshest and tastiest baked goods. The store is always packed with customers. It is located at the entrance of the JR Hakata (Fukuoka Station) just outside the JR train gates. They also have pre-made Japanese club sandwiches in the cold section. We grabbed a bite here before we went to the train platform.

Reganet at Tenjin Station (レガネット 天神店)
Reganet grocery/supermarket is located in at the basement of Tenjin station. I had a hard time searching for the name of this store online. Anyway, it is a good place to pick up some snacks. We ate our delicious bento lunch here. The food selection was really wide and the prices were cheap! We roamed around the store for several minutes to decide what to eat. I really love how the Japanese prepare their food because there's really art involved. This grocery is a "to-go" store and there was no place to eat but we still decided eat near the packing and microwave station. People were like looking at us but we ignored them haha. I bought a smoked fish bento meal and it was so good! I will definitely go back to this place.
