Traveling by train in Japan is an amazing experience. Japanese trains are very clean and modern and are amazingly punctual. We did not avail The Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) because it's expensive. I do not recommend it if you are just exploring one city. JR Pass is recommended if you are traveling from city to city. It is a unique pass for visitors/tourist only, allowing unlimited access to the Japan Rail network, for a period of 7, 14 or 21 days.
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine (大宰府天満宮)
Dazaifu Tenmangu is a shrine built over the grave of Michizane Sugawara venerated by the Japanese throughout the country as the Tenman-Tenjin, or the God of literature or calligraphy. This shine is more lively than most other shrines because it's packed with so many people. I love this shrine because it's a nice spot for cherry blossoms. The plum blossoms were in the pre-bloom stage when we arrived. The surroundings was very comfortable to explore even if the place is crowded. If you're in Fukuoka this is a must-visit place. The Kyushu national museum is also within a 5 min walking distance to the Daizaifu Tenmagu Shrine which make for another interesting visit.
The Ruins of Fukuoka Castle (福岡城跡)
Fukuoka Castle is one of the largest castles in Kyushu. The castle was made by masters of building castles in 1607 about 400 years ago. When you walk in Fukuoka Castles Ruins, you will find beautiful stone walls and turrets. This historical place is well worth a visit. Walking around the park was very relaxing and invigorating. We went to the top of the castle's base to see the view of the city.
